Learning to Write Well Online

Genyo, the Philippines’ first and only fully integrated online learning management system for basic education from Diwa Learning Systems Inc, announced the latest addition to its host of interactive learning content. Writing Buddy, a series of self-directed writing tutorials from Singapore-based Marshall Cavendish Online is set to be available to Genyo subscribers when school starts in June.

Designed to help elementary students improve their writing skills, Writing Buddy has five modules which contain different writing strategies and interactive exercises. It explains the writing process: pre-writing, writing, editing and publishing using a step by step multimedia platform. Students will also enjoy enriching their vocabulary and reading an extensive collection of model references as well.

Writing Buddy also explains different text-types. It zeroes in on the different purposes, structures and language features of narratives, letters and creative writing. Writing strong introductions, using adverbs and adjectives and describing characters effectively are just few of the writing skills students will acquire through the program. It uses a modular system which allows teachers to access any of the five modules and monitor their pupils' progress.

Jose Maria Policarpio, Diwa Executive Director said that writing well is an integral part of basic education. “Great writing skills will always come in handy. That's why it's important to strengthen this area of basic education. Writing is a skill students will need in high school, college and beyond.”

Genyo, which is in its 5th Version, was developed in cooperation with Marshall Cavendish Online; the largest e-learning content and service provider in Singapore servicing more than 65% of all primary and secondary schools there. The Genyo Online Learning Management System enables students to learn through creative and multi-media content such as interactive quizzes, charts, colorful graphics, animations, video and audio clips. Molded around the student’s current lessons and accessible anywhere there’s an internet connection, this web-based management program enables students and parents to access learning materials anytime and anywhere.

Genyo is part of Diwa's ICT-enabled products for basic education in Philippine schools under the Superior Learning Experience (SLE) banner. “SLE is designed to improve students’ learning experience. Adding Writing Buddy to the Genyo system enables students to express what they have learned better. It's a great tool for our budding writers,” enthused Policarpio.
